I wasn’t saying …
I wasn’t saying that Tolkein was referring to the church as an institution. I understood his quote to mean the morals of the church. There are a lot of Christian themes and spiritual ideas in Tolkein’s writings.
By “Catholic work,” I hardly believe he was referring to the actual institution at the Vatican. I mean, let’s face it. How engaging would a book be that was based on the institution and not the moral concepts?
Well, I guess Dan Brown would qualify. Different genres though

Not “on the same …
Not “on the same song” xD
Many parts of the soundtrack tends to quote the main musical theme(s). It’s a thing common in “classical” music.
The return of the king obviously quotes many musical themes from the whole movie

He was aiming at …
He was aiming at the moral and spiritual part. The Middle-Earth is really very very pagan and the only form of religion and, MORE IMPORTANT, only form OF CHURCH present in Middle-Earth is Morgoth’s Cult, with Sauron being the only “pope” in the history of middle-earth.
Let’s not confuse spirituality and personal morality with politics and nowadays religion
