I think I’m going to read the Bible for the first time. Where should I start?

I’m going to read the Bible for the first time–the King James Version. Should I start from the beginning, reading the the Old Testament and then the New Testament in the order that they are written? Or should I start with the New Testament as some have told me? Or even with a particular book? Thanks.

I would start in the new testament. Probably with Matthew or John. They are easy to understand and explain a lot about the Christian faith.

I’m not an expert on religious texts, but as an avid reader I would suggest starting from the beginning… It’s the order it was written in, and therefore most probably the correct order to read it in. Good luck – the bible is something I have never attempted!

Start with the Gospel of John, then John’s three short Epistles.
Then your fourth book to read should be Genesis.

(The order of the books in the Bible is not chronological.)

Just start at the beginning. Good luck making it through the first chapter and NOT coming out with a drastically changed view of Christianity. Reading the Bible is partially what led me to become an atheist.

When I was a Christian, however, my favorite book was Revelations. Very interesting read, which makes sense, considering it was written by John when he was drugged up on hallucinogenic mushrooms while in exile.

Start at the beginning. When you get to the end, stop.

I would start at the beginning. Makes more sense that way.

Just sharing my own beliefs here for a second. I do not know your religion or if you have one but as a Catholic I would not advise that you take everything in the Bible literally as it is written but as symbolically or figuratively. I’m not saying don’t take it seriously but do not take everything literally.

I recommend the Gospels and the book of Acts, then meditating on what you read while praying the holy rosary. See the following promises.

    The rosary is explained here:
    http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/Prayers/rosary/how_to.htm

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.
    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.
    9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
    12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
    15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

    God bless!

Start with the contradictions and corruptions here’s some to get you started:

    1. Who incited David to count the fighting men of Israel?

    God did (2 Samuel 24: 1)
    Satan did (I Chronicles 2 1:1)

    2. In that count how many fighting men were found in Israel?

Eight hundred thousand (2 Samuel 24:9)
One million, one hundred thousand (I Chronicles 21:5)

    3. How many fighting men were found in Judah?

    Seven (2 Samuel 24:13)
    Three (I Chronicles 21:12)

    9. When did David bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem? Before defeating the Philistines or after?

    After (2 Samuel 5 and 6)
    Before (I Chronicles 13 and 14)

    10. How many pairs of clean animals did God tell Noah to take into the Ark?

    Two (Genesis 6:19, 20)
Seven (Genesis 7:2). But despite this last instruction only two pairs went into the ark (Genesis 7:8-9)

    11. When David defeated the King of Zobah, how many horsemen did he capture?

One thousand and seven hundred (2 Samuel 8:4)
    Seven thousand (I Chronicles 18:4)

    Leviticus 21:9

And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire

If s girl commits adultery and her father is a priest she is to be burned??!!

    Deuteronomy 25:11-12

If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts

You shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity

For defending her husband by any means necessary she is to get her hands cut off?!?!??!!??!?!?!!!!

Last but not least one the most amazing parts in the Bible the Prophet Lot P.B.U.H *a loved and respected Prophet in the Holy Quran* impregnates both his daughters while drunk. Here it is for all to read:

    Genesis 19:30-38

And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters

And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth

Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father

And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose

Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father

And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day

And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day

or visit the website in source and you should also read 200+ways the Quran corrects the Bible or just read the Gospel of Barnabas and find out why it’s banned from the Bible
