Elvis Presley & Priscilla Presley’s 1174 Hillcrest Dr. Beverly Hills Home

March 18, 2010 - 8:18 pm 4 Comments

Elvis Presley’s 1174 Hillcrest Dr. Beverly Hills Home. I’ve been driving by this home since 1970. Photos of Elvis Presley’s home in 1977 & 1978: http://www.stardriveways.com/1174hillcrestdrbeverlyhills.html

Elvis purchased this home 1174 Hillcrest Dr. Beverly Hills for $400,000 in 1967. The home is a 3 bedroom multilevel French Regency style house with an Olympic-sized swimming pool built in 1961 that is next door to the Danny Thomas home. This is the home where Elvis would often come out to the gates and visit with the fans that gathered there. This is Lisa Marie’s first California. In 1970 after the Manson murders Elvis purchased a home located at 144 Monovale in Beverly Hills. When Elvis and Priscilla separated Priscilla and Lisa continued to live at the Monovale home for a short period of time until Priscilla purchased her home on Summit Dr. where she currently lives. The Monovale home is steps away from the home Michael Jackson passed away in.

Elvis Presley Aloha from Hawaii 1973 ## part 1 of 7

March 9, 2010 - 6:08 pm 25 Comments

Aloha from Hawaii is a music concert that was headlined by Elvis Presley, and broadcast live via satellite around the world on January 14, 1973. It was watched by over one billion viewers worldwide and remains the most watched broadcast by an individual entertainer in television history. The concert took place at the International Convention Center Arena in Honolulu (now known as the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena) and aired in over 40 countries across Asia and Europe (who received the telecast the next day, also in primetime). Despite the satellite innovation, the United States did not air the concert until April 4, 1973 (the concert took place the same day as Super Bowl VII). The show was the most expensive entertainment special at the time, costing $2.5 million.
As the event was the first-ever such performance to be broadcast live via satellite, Presley taped a January 12 rehearsal concert as a fail-safe in case anything went wrong with the satellite, during the actual broadcast – however, nothing went wrong during the January 14th broadcast. For both shows, Presley was dressed in a white “American Eagle” jumpsuit designed by Bill Belew.
Audience tickets for the January 14 concert and its January 12 pre-broadcast rehearsal show carried no price. Each audience member was asked to pay whatever he or she could afford. The performance and concert merchandise sales raised $75,000 for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund in Hawaii. (Kui Lee was a Hawaiian composer who had died of cancer in 1966 while still in his thirties.)
Elvis performed a vast array of old and recent hits like “Steamroller Blues”, “See See Rider”, “Early Morning Rain”, “Burning Love”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, “A Big Hunk o’ Love”, “Suspicious Minds”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” He showed his vocal range and strength with ballads like the Beatles’ “Something”, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, “It’s Over”, “Welcome to my World”, “I’ll Remember You” and especially during “What Now My Love”. The show is probably most remembered for his performance of the “An American Trilogy”. After the concert had finished and the audience had left, Presley recorded five songs on stage to be aired during the American airing of the show.

Sesame Street – The Alligator King

September 28, 2009 - 8:04 am 25 Comments

Classic Sesame Street tune from 1971, written/animated by Pixar’s Bud Luckey (also on the banjo, what a talent!), lyrics by Don Hadley, sung by Turk Murphy (of the Turk Murphy Jazz Band) who also sang “Penny Candy Man”. Much thanks to bob94109 for his help.

From my site, The Sesame Street Lyrics Archive, enjoy!

The broadcast of this video is authorized by Sesame Workshop. Thank you so much!

Lyrics:

One two three four five six seven!
Said the Alligator King to his seven sons,
“I’m feelin’ mighty down.
Whichever of you can cheer me up
Will get to wear my crown.”

His first son brought seven oyster pearls
From the bottom of the China Sea.

The second gave him seven statues of girls
With clocks where their stomachs should be.

The third son gave him seven rubies
From the sheikdom Down There Beneath.
The King thought the rubies were cherries,
And he broke off seven of his teeth.

The fourth son tried to cheer him up
With seven lemon drops.
The King said, “I’m sorry son,
Since that ruby episode, I just haven’t got the chops.”

The fifth son brought the King perfume
In seven fancy silver jars;
The King took a whiff, and he broke out in spots
‘Cause it smelled like cheap cigars.

The sixth son gave him seven diamond rings
To wear upon his toes.
The King snagged his foot on the royal red rug
And crumpled up his nose.

The seventh son of the Alligator King
Was a thoughtful little whelp.
He said, “Daddy, appears to me
That you could use a little help.”

Said the Alligator King to his seventh son,
“My son, you win the crown.
You didn’t bring me diamonds or rubies, but
You helped me up when I was down.
Take the crown; it’s yours, my son.
I hope you don’t mind the dents.
I got it on sale at a discount store -
Cost me all of seven cents!”
Seven!
