Do you believe that there are parts of our minds that we hide from ourselves?
I think that our minds are botomless, and that sometimes we hid the dark corners even to ourselves. Do you believe this theory, that sometimes our own mind can be too much for us to fathom? That there is a way of thinking or a part of who we are that we are ashamed or afraid to show, especially to ourselves, so we bury it? I think so. What do you believe is a part of your mind that you suspect is there but that does not reveal itself?
For me I think there is a part of me, somewhere, that is not suspicious. I’ve been around the block of manipulation quite a few times, and it’s tough for me to open up and not question whether or not this person will use or hurt me. I think somewhere down there is a trusting and confident soul, who thinks that people near her are good too. (I tend to make blanket statements, saying that humans are good creatures, but I never look right at the people who surround me and examine their motives.) So perhaps there is someone like that down there. Trusting.
You have got the concept totally wrong. No human being has an individual mind. The mind is universal in nature and has two compartments… the plus and the minus! From the mind plus flow all positive thoughts that we invoke on Mother Earth. All negative thoughts stem from mind minus. Mind plus and mind minus both exist in the center of the Cosmos.
Human beings only have a brain that acts as a receiving and transmitting station. When the thoughts are broadcasted from mind plus and mind minus… our brain simply invokes the thoughts based on our input. Those with godly thinking and sunny disposition invoke positive thoughts… others indulging in wanton desires and materialistic riches invoke negative thoughts!
The invocation of a thought largely depends upon the persona… the individual human being! Optimists always invoke positive thoughts while pessimists mostly negative! It is not that optimists always demonstrate positive emotions or pessimists only negative emotions! The invocation of thought positive or negative depends upon ones attitude in life.
Every human being before reaching the human form has already crossed through various forms of insect life, plant life and animal life. The attributes of all these forms always exist within us. The prime reason why some human beings display animal instinct when angry! The human form is achieved after crossing through 7.3 million manifestations.
It is only as a human being the power of discrimination becomes available… the power that distinguishes us from animals! Mounted with this power of discrimination and our ability to think… mankind reaches the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). Enlightenment and salvation can only way reached through the human form.
As is the residual balance of karma, so is the invocation of thought! The brain of a human being always acting like a transmitter or a receiving a station! Every second thousands of thoughts pass by our brain… what to invoke and what not is purely the prerogative of every individual human being.
Mind of the whole Cosmos is one. All thoughts are floating in ether all the time. Every living form depending on the level of karma… the karma index can invoke thoughts from the reservoir of mind plus or mind minus. The source of all thoughts for the whole Cosmos is one. It is traveling on these thoughts waves… human beings reached the level of enlightenment and salvation.
Our negative deeds are embedded in us. Our positive deeds are also embedded in us. At any given point of time we either invoke a positive or a negative thought! All is the result of karma performed by us. The darker side of every human being rests with the thoughts invoked by one. Circumstances sometimes force people to change their attitude and thinking.
The funny side of mind power is… the hidden part of our brain! Normal human beings only use one percent of their brain. Albert Einstein the famous physicist used his brain four percent. Enlightened beings use their brain hundred percent. It is in the unused portion of the brain… the dormant portion laid the hidden factors of the Cosmos.
Most human beings fear this dormant portion of the brain. As we mature in life… the dormant portion of the brain opens step-by-step. For a spiritual seeker… the opening of the dormant portion is faster. Traveling on the path of absolute truthfulness… a human being finally reaches the stage of enlightenment and salvation. It is at this stage the brain finally opens up fully.
The complete Wisdom of the Cosmos is now available to the enlightened human being. One need not read the sacred scriptures yet, whatever is contained in them becomes like ABCD. Everything contained in mind plus and mind minus is always available to the enlightened human being in totality!
The Shahastra Pushpa (thousand petalled Lotus) within the brain of a human being opens up finally. One becomes a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or prophet Mohammed! One has finally reached the end of cosmic life… the 8.4 millionth manifestation! Hereafter it is a direct journey to the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). There may be parts, or capabilities, in our minds that aren’t utilized, but if you are burying something, you aren’t being true to yourself.

Well I think we all have relatively equal potential its just that due to our experiences we are kind of "blocked off" from certain areas of our subconcious.

I don’t believe that it is really hidden corners of ourselves that is what is really happening – I think that it is really the thoughts and memories that we find uncomfortable, that we’d rather suppress or consciouslessly acknowledge to oursleves that may be the real problem.
And I am not talking about nightmarish memories, more simple thoughts and ideas that we find uncomfortable because they either do not fit into what we have carved out for ourselves, or that bringing them to the forefront of our minds would mean that we would have to deal with our anxieties or fears.
We as humans naturally prefer a simple life, but know full well that, that is nothing more than a dream, because of the lives around us that interact with us either directly or indirectly.
If there is someone in your life that you feel safe with, yet the past experiences have burned your mind with memories or thoughts that you wish were not there, it is difficult to shut them out. However facing those parts of your mind, head on, may initially be harder, but potentially has the greater reward, and certainly confronts those fears enabling you to get over them or better understand them.
I’m not sure if this is what you were after, but I give it to you as merely an opinion of mine.
Take care.

For me, the mind is not that different from the word I. It is not my mind that hid any troubled memories or experiences. It is I that wanted to forget those things. To say that my mind fails to remember such things is only a defensive mechanism to shelter our ego from being shattered.

I don’t know if I hide them from myself, but there are certainly urges, inklings, ideas, suspicions, fears, hurts, weaknesses, and desires that I supress or reject, rather than act upon. I know that I am capable being a much worse person than I want to be, so I make my choices. It’s probably the same for everyone- we’ve all got the potential for good or bad.

Sometimes it is called "denial" that is the answer to your main question, and the first paragraph.
As to the second paragraph, Yes I too am too trusting. Though as you say I have been around the block of manipulation, quite a few times. Many times I say to myself "I will not be so trusting anymore". But to no avail it does not work. I am who I am. However in the grand scheme of things I think it is better to be trusting than suspicious. Yes we do get conned, but truth to tell it is far and in-between.
Good luck, and blessings.

Yeah I think there are parts of our mind that we hide from ourselves. And like you said I think that some of it has to do with saving ourselves at the same time.
There’s the concept in some math that there are things that can’t be played on some record players and that’s because some sound frequencies will destroy the player add to that some records would break and destroy themselves.
But I think that has to do with the fact that our mind could hold the same power. That there are parts of our mind that help us feel better in a health way and some parts of our mind that make us sick.
I do believe that there are parts of my mind that I don’t really want to travel down not because I don’t want to acknologe that place exist but I don’t want to give that negativity more power then it needs like the power to kill another is not necassary for my survial most of the time. But I could enjoy I relize that and I don’t try and feed that.
The things that might be reveal might be things like Egar Casey and his prophieces some of the world and some of myself because there’s probally a part in the mind where time doesn’t exist and everything is as one.
