He paces it so well. The run from the dissonant end of the solo, to the a capaella last verse to the final climax is perfect. He even made the bum note he sang in the first chorus seem like it belonged

Yes he did. In 1992 he released Fragments Of A Rainy Season, a solo concert in Bruxelles. It´s also avaliable as dvd. Hallelujah posted by dekkersj is from that gig.
