Who wrote the original "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table"?

The most definitive version of this epic was Sir Thomas Mallory’s "Le Morte d’Arthur" of the 15th Century. King Arthur was first mentioned briefly a few centuries earlier in three histories as a king of Britain who fought against Saxon invaders, but the tales grew as troubadours told them for a long time. King Arthur (& his 150 Knights of the Round Table) and Charlemagne (& his 12 Paladins) were favorite subjects of "Chansons de Geste". There were "Nine Worthies" called the greatest heroes of history who were the main subjects then: Hector, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Joshua, David, Judas Maccabeus, King Arthur, Charlemagne and Godfrey of Bouillon. Each troubadour had his own songs about these legendary men, and Sir Thomas Malory collected many of the existing tales about King Arthur and organized them into a coherent book. In the 12th century, Geoffrey of Monmouth gave the tale much of its present basic version in his book on "History of the British Kings". Also in the 12th century, Chretien de Troyes added Sir Lancelot and the Holy Grail to the mix. The French tales came to concentrate more upon the Knights of the Round Table, and King Arthur was forced into the background.

Elvis Presley – GI Blues (1960)

May 29, 2010 - 1:55 am 6 Comments

G.I. Blues is a 1960 Elvis Presley musical motion picture played as a romantic comedy. It was filmed while Presley was fulfilling his military service obligation with the United States Army in West Germany during the height of the Cold War. It was filmed at Paramount’s Hollywood studios and on location in Germany.

U.S. Army Specialist 5 (SP5) Tulsa McLean (Elvis Presley) is a tank crewman with a singing career. Serving with the 3rd Armored “Spearhead” Division in West Germany, McLean dreams of running his own nightclub when he leaves the army, but such dreams don’t come cheap. Tulsa places a bet on his friend Dynamite (Edward Stroll), that he can spend the night with a club dancer named Lili (Juliet Prowse), who is rumored to be hard to get. She turned down one other G.I. operator, Turk (Jeremy Slate). Dynamite and Turk have vied for women before when the two were stationed in Hawaii. When Dynamite gets transferred to Alaska, Tulsa is brought in to take his place. He is not looking forward to it, but in order to keep his money, he must go through with it. McLean uses his Southern charm and calls Lili, “Ma’am.” She at first sees Tulsa as another Occupation Duty GI. Then after a day on the Rhine, Lili begins to fall for McLean. Tulsa’s friend Cookie falls in love, with Lili’s roommate, Tina (Letícia Román) from Italy. In the end, Rick and Marla’s baby son Tiger helps Tulsa win the bet for the outfit—and Lili’s heart. Michael Jackson – Heartbreak Hotel – Yokohama – 1987 – Japan

May 29, 2010 - 1:55 am No Comments

september 12 1987.
Originally named “Heartbreak Hotel”, “This Place Hotel” was a hit recording by The Jacksons when it was released in 1980.
Written, composed and produced by Michael, the song would precede Jackson’s own hit, “Billie Jean”, in its insecurity-plagued tale of confusion. While his brothers did not sing background vocals, they were credited with playing percussion on the album while brother Tito contributed a guitar solo. The song reached number twenty-two on the Billboard pop singles chart and number two on the R&B singles chart when it was released and became the group’s second biggest single off their Triumph album, behind “Can You Feel It.” The song, in turn, became a popular concert performance for the group’s next two tours right into Michael’s own Bad tour. The song, like the aforementioned “Can You Feel It,” has become one of the oft-sampled songs in hip-hop.
The song’s title was changed because of the 1956 Elvis Presley hit, “Heartbreak Hotel”.The song was performed on the Jacksons’ Triumph Tour (thus appears on the Jacksons’ subsequent live album) and was subsequently used on the Jacksons’ Victory Tour. When Michael Jackson first toured as a solo act, “This Place Hotel” was the only Jacksons song to be used in both legs of the Bad World Tour whereas the other songs by the group (with the exception of a medley of early Jackson 5 hits) were retired during the second leg. A spoken word and synth recording preceded the song on the first leg of the Bad tour, but for the second leg of the tour (and on the subsequent Dangerous World Tour ) that recording was used as an intro to Jackson’s hit “Smooth Criminal” instead.
The song was included on Michael Jackson’s The Ultimate Collection.
